hessa turns 1 . tea party

Attended the tea party of my mentor, Shiks's baby Hessa who just turned one today at NSRCC. Gorgeous setting, handmade with heart by Shiks, that was truly impressed! Lovely one.

kooka cafe . australian cafe housed in a tint of historic chinese

Sauntered along Purvis Street after my visit to Basheer Graphics Book Shop at Bras Basah [ link ], Sam brought me to Kooka Cafe for a tea before our anticipated French dining at Saveur [ link ] that is located just a few shops away. Housed in a historic shophouse, this Australian cafe is truly a hidden gem behind its glass door with a tint of warmness like Chinese.

The cafe ambience was so cozy with lesser crowds, dim light and the rattan lights shimmered above the woods.

A few students were doing their revision where the university days keep flowing into my mind.

And before we move on to the central part of the cafe, there is a rattan basket full of cutlery placed above the wood barrel with a jarful of sky juice to be served for free.

At the central part of the cafe, here lies the cafe counter which will catch my eyes as usual. Personally, I really heart the tips jar with simple illustration that added the craftiness in the owner.

Well kept in the glass cookie jars.

There are several types of cookie available for sale in the cafe.

Right behind the cafe counter is where the kitchen located. Full of aroma of coffee, cookies and all good things you can recall, I better back to our seat to wait for our picks.

I heart stars a lot. The table lamp simply appear so gorgeous for me like the drops of glittering.

And the earthy tone in all little things which complement the gorgeous starry table lamp just well.

We spent our leisure afternoon eating Fries, my all time favourite snacks while flipping the magazines we just bought at Basheer.

And seriously, it was such a bliss to compensate my week-long sleep deprivation to have this fabulous slice of Kooka's Blueberry Cheese Cake.

What a sweet indulgence. A great cheese cake, if you want a word to describe from me. You gotta try it yourself, seriously.

Our grab of the day, got myself a pantone guide at such a steal of $9.90! Oh loved.

Say hallo to Sam, my Fuji photog and sweet partner in crime in town.

Then, Kooka has the written chalkboard message with hope to get a like at their Facebook page [ link ] and stay connected.

Well time flies, we gotta leave soon to Saveur for dinner. There were several art paintings placed on the washed jade green wall to soften its background. Nice piece of art.

Kooka also offers readers a cozy canvas couch with black pillows that added a touch of minimalistic in this Australian cafe.

Another beautiful place I just unravelled in town, food print left.

ps. happy saturday readers :)

saveur . affordable french cuisine

Saveur is the brainchild of two young and entrepreneurial minds which prides herself in offering quality French cuisine at affordable price to the masses.

The casual chic restaurant gleaming with her victorian-styled exterior in light yellow hue and crowds who made their beeline for a seat, even before her operating hours that start at six in the evening.

Due to high volume of customers, the waiter or waitress will pass around the menu for those who patronize while they are waiting to decrease table turnover rate and meal period.

Customers will basically made a choice of what to dine in upon entering the restaurant.

Sam and I picked the Chicken Roulade where the chicken thigh is stuffed with foie gras-infused chicken farce, creamy basmati rice and parmesan sauce. Def a steal!

Next, we had this delicious plate of Duck Salad that both of us truly adore. Quite a generous serving of shredded duck confit mesclun tossed with homemade lemon vinaigrette, quail egg, orange segments and cherry tomatoes for the decent price. Argh, I still couldn't get the quail egg out of my mind upon writing this. Laugh.

Oh well we were both seated at the new extension area for the night. Though the food served our taste buds really good, we did not manage to catch a quality chat over here realizing there are so many customers waiting for the seats. The only flaw, I supposed.

Placed adjacent to the new extension area, is the entrance welcoming customers with a lovely chandelier depicting a dainty bit of French.

The window view wall decal simply made me homesick for a second, recalling my new window view wall decal placed at the corner of my wardrobe at home. So near, yet so far.

In a nutshell, a place worth visiting from either aesthetically or financially that I'd love to come back again for a hearty meal with my friends soon. Would you?

I like books that expose me to people unlike me
and books that do battle against caricature or simplification.
That, to me, is the heroic in fiction.

the tuckshop . 403 guillemard road

I simply got too excited to unravel this hidden gem in Geylang which was just newly opened on August 8, 2013. Thanks to Wendy and William who brought me over for a chill and relaxing Saturday night. Wendy hearts the kampung-styled chair at al fresco area which reminds her a lot of childhood memories. She actually thought of asking the owner to sell her. Laugh. The tranquil ambience like a neighborhood, along with the swedish Kopparberg Elderflower & Lime Cider and must-try Prawn Twisters had eased my tiring soul after a week-long of sleep deprivation. Not so much of review-oriented post for tonight as I dropped by for a chat simply in an unexpected manner, I hope you'll enjoy the shots and feel free to run into this hidden gem, now perhaps.
